This was an amazing book. I loved the writing style, the pacing, and and plot. I didn't see the twist coming at the end and anything about the Romanov's is always interesting. I'm glad I picked this book up and can't wait to read the rest of the series. I've never read a book without chapters, but Eastland did an excellent job of keeping the sections shot to give you reasonable breaks in the reading. This pace was excellent from page one and just kept pulling me back in! SERIES: 1RATING: 3.0Pekkala joined the Army after his brother was ousted and disappeared. Ultimately, he became the Tsar's private detective. He had legendary powers of observation and a photographic memory and was known as the "Emerald Eye". Unfortunately, he didn't demonstrate those skills throughout most of the book. He made a mistake in identifying a key person, which was a real showstopper for me. The setting, particularly Pekkala's stay at a Siberian labor camp, was well done. On the whole, the book was average.
What do You think about L'occhio Dello Zar (2010)?
Inspector Pekkala is a detective in a very unusual situation, and it is quite fascinating
