Locke (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

HEATHER'S REVIEW - 5 StarsOH MY LOCKE!!!! Like most fans of the Corps Security series, I have been intrigued by Maddox Locke since Axel. Seeing him and Emmy throughout the series really got my anticipation for his story at an all-time high. We have seen him and Emmy have that push and pull thing go on and have known something was there between them but not quite sure what that something was. Add to it sweet Emmy and what happened with Coop and Locke’s mysterious darkness and I knew I would be in for one hell of a ride. This 5th and final installment of the Corps boys blew me away! Maddox Locke is a complex man to say the very least. The stuff that he has gone through, the demons that haunt him are nothing like I originally thought. Emmy’s background was shocking as well, from the opening scene in this book I was like “no way”. The way she grew up was heartbreaking yet how she got to where she was with Corps showed how much strength she had.Emmy and Locke totally complement each other. Locke let his past and his demons control him and take his hostage in a sense, while Emmy was determined not to let her past and her upbringing define her. Even when her past collides with the present and threatens to destroy everything she is, she doesn’t let that control her. Emmy is one of those female leads that I just love. She is so strong and so sassy yet she is compassionate and allows herself to be vulnerable, especially when it comes to Locke, even though she thinks no can see it. Maddox Locke is a fallen soldier with a family so vile that he grew up believing that he was worthless. He believes his scars- both physical and emotional- are so ugly that not even an angel like Emmy can fix him. Locke is a total alpha male. Mysterious, broody and hot as hell, especially in bed. The sex is off the hook yet doesn’t take away from the integrity of the story which is one of the things I love about Harper Sloane. She gives the reader just the right amount of sexy times that enhances the plot rather than take away from it.This book had the right amount if everything- laughter, tears, love, lust, suspense and a whole lot of angst that you can only get from the men of Corps Security. I am so sad to see this series come to a close and am hoping from the prologue we get some sort of spin-off because I am so not ready to let these guys go.AMY'S REVIEW - 5 Stars This book rocked my sox totally!! I am so in love with these Corps Security bad ass men and Locke did not disappoint!!! I was waiting for some more broody caveman and Maddox Locke was just that. Harper Sloan hit this out of the park rounding out the group effortlessly with this book.I LOVED LOVED LOVED that she wrote Locke the way she did. He’s a proud bad ass American who has seen more in his short tour as a Marine that anyone should ever. He comes back stronger and more complete than he realizes he ever was. It took a broken yet confident woman to show him that love and pride are not physical but mental and emotional.Emmy…yes Emersyn that mysterious character that haunts Locke’s thought and dreams. SHE IS AMAZING!!! Never giving up hope and always determined to get what she wants. She is a pillar of strength even tho her own life seems a mess. She is the strong woman Locke needs to heal and build his life.I really LOVED this book hard…I really liked this whole series and would recommend it 100%!!! Harper Sloan is a mastermind of love, angst, grit and feels…she can bring out the humor one minute and the emotional ugly cry the next! The Marine corps story line hits close to home and made me respect and honor these men more than ever.Grab this book…hell grab the whole series and read it! It is amazing!!! I have been patiently waiting for Maddox Locke’s book and please believe Mad is my absolute favorite character by far!!!! Mad had me pulled in from the other books with his mysterious ways and how he would want everyone else happy but never himself. Until Emmy walks into his life. I adore Emmy!!!! She had a rough start to life and I hated the things this poor girl had to go through. I also hated to see the pain Maddox had to go through as well. Once you find out his whole entire story you completely understand why he is the way he is. It broke my heart to see his family treat him with such disrespect. But when he finally gave into Emmy it was absolutely beautiful. These two built each other back up from day one and Emmy helped Mad to understand the kind of man her really was. Fantastic job Harper on all the books. I enjoyed every single one but I officially claim Maddox!!
