Look Who's Playing First Base (1987) - Plot & Excerpts

This book is about this kid who moved to the United States a week ago. A person left my baseball team and we needed someone to replace him at first base. He didn't know who to choose so he picked the new kid. The new kid was horrible in practice! Thats when are catcher didnt like the new kid and wanted him to get off the team. After a while the new kid got very good and are catcher was jealous so he threatened to quit the team. I thought he was kidding but after a few practices he left. The coach was worried. Nobody wanted to be catcher. They wanted me to be catcher! I said ok but I wanted to say no but I couldn't. So after two practices I was horrible at catcher and had a swollen hand. I wished the old catcher would come back and he did. At the last second he came in and did great. I was very happy. I liked this book a lot. This book was mainly for sports people, and well, thats me. This book gave me visions of what the hits look liked and thats mainly why I liked this. This book also gave some awesome word choice like CRACK or BOOM.

First Base by Matt Christopher is an ok book I think it was really fast and hard to paint a picture about the main idea, but overall it was decent. Mike is a kid from a small city who is all baseball but when the first basemen of the checkmates leaves they are in the hunt for a new first basemen. Luckily there is a new kid named Yuri who recently moved from Russia who has a arm and is really lengthy. Most of the players don't like him but in the end he really is something different.I rated this book a 3/5 and it really deserves that because it is hard to really paint a mental picture in your head and it goes by really fast it will switch from one game to a different game and you will still be in the middle of reading one game.I really just wouldn't recommend this book to anyone but if I had to it would be to fans of sports books or fans of Mike Lupica and Matt Christopher books.

Mike is on a baseball team and his friend Yuri is going to play.Yuri is not very good and his teammates are getting mad. Yuri can't catch or throw. The setting of the story was mostly on the baseball field. It seemed like the story was around our years in the present. Mike will either stick up for him or not. Mike ends up sticking up for Yuri and Yuri gets better. the team starts to like him after he gets good. The genre is realistic fiction by Matt Christopher. I liked how the book had suspense. My favorite part was when Yuri gets good at baseball. It seemed like the author didn't know much about baseball.I would recommend this book to people that like sports. If you like baseball this would be the book to get. I love all these kind of books that Matt Christopher writes.
