Lost In The Tunnel Of Time (2006) - Plot & Excerpts
Sharon M. Draper is best known for her gritty young adult "urban" titles like Tears of a Tiger, Romiette and Julio, and The Battle of Jericho. While these may be a bit uncomfortable for younger or less mature readers, she has also written novels like Double Dutch with less pain but a still strong connection to urban teen reality . Her Clubhouse Mysteries are for younger readers still, and they are delightful. This book follows the mis-adventures of some overly-curious boys, probably middle schoolers through they could be younger, as they set out to explore some tunnels and hiding rooms under their school that date from the Underground Railroad. While the boys find themselves in a bind as the story comes to its climax, adults and pets come to the rescue as these boys knew they would. It is a story you could read aloud to the youngest school-age children. Any readers who are ready for chapter books should navigate this novel and the others in the series easily and happily.
