Got in bed a little disappointed with myself for not having accomplished much on a Saturday and then I remembered, no wait! I went to Lobo's Nod and caught a serial killer with the help of Sheriff G. William Tanner! The eBook novella trend gives a slow reader like me a sense of accomplishment, and for series fans, it helps tide them over until the release of the next book. Lots of adult appeal in this character study of an aging sheriff on the brink of giving up. Except for the abrupt ending, it could stand alone. I plan to use it to hook some more adult readers onto this popular YA series. The Jasper Dent series is one of the few* books I've read where the villain genuinely leaps off the page and gives me chills. Lucky day is the prequel to the series and details G. William's investigation and apprehension of big bad, Billy Dent. I know it's ridiculous because I know that G. William survived and was obviously in I Hunt Killers and Game, but throughout the book I was still convinced that Billy would kill him and that he was in grave danger. Even though this technically functions as a prequel, I would recommend reading at least I Hunt Killers, if not Game, before reading Lucky Day. That way, you can appreciate the seriousness of the investigation and Billy's cunningness. If you have read the other two books, then this is the perfect short to hold you over until Blood of My Blood releases on September 09, 2014. *Other creeptastic villains: Naughty John in The Diviners by Libba Bray and Jack the Ripper in Ripper by Stefan Petrucha.

Ending was somewhat anticlimactic and should have been longer, but I was quite engaged.
