L'ultimo Amore Di Valeria (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
A fun book - for fans of My Mother and the Turk or fans of Middlesex - comes a debut novel that packs a big punch. A motley crew of deep characters lives together in an old village that is quickly confronting the future. A great story that, mostly, stars those of an older generation, who we realize have better stories than many of the younger protagonists who usually star in these books. A delightful little story about treachery, adultery, sensuality, love and creativity among the seniors in a small Hungarian village "so small as to be nearly outside of history - the Germans, the Soviets, the capitalists, no one bothers to stop in this hamlet."Populated by a cast of colorful individuals, the town is dominated by Valeria, the crankiest spinster in the village. When she suddenly notices the widowed potter who she has known all her life, she falls in love and surprisingly becomes his muse and inspires him and others in the village to higher goals. My ancestors grew up in villages like this. I wonder if there was this much intrigue going on in their time.

What a pathetic little book. Riddled with errors.
