Fans of Lynda Chance may like this one, at least initially. It has the same kind of old fashioned alpha cowboy hero and the virginal heroine that are found in her novels. However, there were some editing oversights and odd choice of vocabulary that would fit more in a historical romance than a present day story. (No one nowadays uses terms like "harlot" and "rake" aside from being ironic. It was bizarre.) Overall, I prefer Lynda Chance as her characters are more fleshed out and her writing more concise. This read like a valiant first effort by a writer who has talent but needs to work on her craft. I really liked Jeb and Brianne! She is sweet and innocent but has been knocked around by life quite hard and has the scars that come along with those experiences. He is a tough as nails alpha-male who has 4 younger siblings to look after. He is knocked for a loop by her, and while it takes him a while to accept how far and fast he has fallen, once he does, he is relentless in his protection and cobbling of his womanNothing over the top but lots of sweetness and rough edges that fascinate everyone around them and leaves our two main characters oblivious to the effect they have on each other and how it looks.
What do You think about Lumber And Lace (2000)?
