Madame Doubtfire (1995) - Plot & Excerpts

I think it was...eh...not as good as the movie. Then again, they never are.Daniel lied saying he had a job as a nude modelGloria's (neighbor) name in the movie is Mrs. Hooper in the bookMiranda has red hair (37)Chapter 3, everyone fears MirandaMiranda worked at Hillard's lighting Emporium, while in the movie, Miranda was an interior decoratorNatalie opened the door for Madame D (58) when they first met, not MirandaMadame Doubtfire/Dan tapped Natalie on the buttNatty knows Madame D is Daniel. She calls him Daddy (61). She knew during the whole book, while in the movie, she didn't know until he performed the Heimlich maneuver on Stu...who was NOT in the book.Lydia was nice to Madame Doubtfire, while Chris was mean...totally opposite from the movieMadame D says Chris needed to be hitLydia likes reading comics and other things (74 and 77)Close calls (103 and 104)Scrutinize (107)Stories about Daniel (110)There's a bold across a bathroom door? (113)In the book, Dan and Miranda have been divorced for years, while in the movie, it was only a few monthsNatalie sucked her thumb (122)Daniel abuses Chris and swears at him (129)Madame D's signature is awesome (140)Nat's hedgehog story...Egog (146). She can't spell hedgehogLydia plays the oboe (150)Daniel agreed to pose nude for art people and there, Miranda found out he was Madame D. The gross thing is, the kids didn't mind seeing their dad naked because they've seen it several times. (169)I know I'd be mortified. My dad's a couple hundred pounds, so it's bad enough, but even if my dad had a good body, I still wouldn't want to see him naked. Daniel blames his behavior on Miranda.Miranda was mad because she's actually been paying Daniel to watch their kids.Daniel punched a wall (174)Daniel tossed Madam D clothes in the trash (182)Even after Miranda found out Daniel was Madame D, she still kissed Dan on the cheek (195)Chris' quail diesLydia yelled at her mom, telling her she's staying at her Dad's, which caused Miranda to bring the kids there and leave them there until the next morning. It ended with Dan reading and later reciting by memory a book and the kids and Daniel holding hands.Okay ending. I was hoping for more though...I'm not sure what.

I am sadly currently writing this review in the wake of Robin Williams' death. Williams was a truly marvellous actor and comedian, and I feel Hollywood, as well as the world, has lost a true gem tonight.I'm not going to lie, I remember being incredibly confused reading this when I was a kid. I adored the movie, so when I heard it had been inspired by this book, obviously I decided to read this book immediately. The problem was, the movie wasn't exactly faithful to the book, and I remember being incredibly confused reading this because the characters in the books seemed a lot different. For example, in this book Madame Doubtfire smokes. I remember being extremely confused by this because it always reminded me of the funny scene in the film where Mrs Doubtfire pretends to be a smoker, and comes up with a funny story about having quit smoking, but she likes to sit in the smokers area to inhale the fumes. Daniel uses this as a ploy, so that he can change out of his Mrs Doubtfire get up in between meals. Also, in the book the characters were British. Again this confused me, because obviously the film was American. But I guess that before Harry Potter came along, it was common practice for American film makers to change British characters into American characters.Confusion aside, I remember loving this book and it may seem a little unfair, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to give this book 4 stars instead of 5, just because a small part of me kind of preferred the movie. I think this was down to Williams' brilliant acting and comical wit, which is why I am so upset about his death, I can't even put it into words. #RIPRobinWilliams

What do You think about Madame Doubtfire (1995)?

Aku pasti terlalu banyak membaca artikel psikologi haha!

I love the movie. I mean it's a classic, a hallmark of my youth, how could I do otherwise? The book was, as far as I knew, not available electronically. I have a vague memory of an audio tape version from the local library, but that's itt.But now, thanks to the Puffin Modern Classics range I get to enjoy it properly. It's a well-told story, the issues are, of course, powerful and controversial and although it's far too quick to read as an adult, it's going to be one on my shelf when the little one gets older. I was most pleased to have the opportunity to read it.
