I can't believe how well written and put together this short little story is. Very well done. I plan to read the second and let my daughters read this. It was so cute. My only complaint is it is really not a full story it is only a beginning story of 9 sisters and each sister takes a turn putting the story together. This could be really difficult and end up creating a great set of books or a really good beginning that didn't go anywhere. I guess we will have to wait and see since only book 2 is done. The author's style is very enjoyable and catching. The character's emotions and reactions seemed true to life and not forced (like many books tend to be nowadays). The dialogue and scenes moved things forward. As a whole, the book was interesting and kept me flipping pages to find out what was going to happen next. However, I did not care for the main character, Maelyn. She was not thoughtful of her sisters (usually taking the best for herself) with one exception, she was bossy, unwilling to lower herself to explain things to others, she was proud and looked down on other poorer people (just like the nobles looked down on her), she is deceitful, and all-in-all quite a rude selfish girl. The only way she let up on a relationship she had manipulated one sisters out of was because she got into a similar relationship and wanted to keep it up. UGH! And it's not like she really changed by the end of the book so that one could feel better about it... mean to nice type story. Anyway... so, I enjoyed the story while really disliking the main character. If I am supposed to like her, the author didn't succeed with making her likable. If I'm not... then bingo! The one redeemable quality (if you can call it that) is that she is - deep down - insecure. Which should explain and smooth over everything else, I suppose. The other characters, however, were easier. I liked those I was supposed to like (i.e. Willow, the deceased parents, and the youngest girl), and I disliked those I was supposed to dislike (i.e. the bookstore owner, the uncle, the second eldest sister, etc). I especially liked Willow - he was very thoughtful, sweet, gentlemanly, and everything you are supposed to like in a main-guy-character.All-in-all, I enjoyed the story as a whole, but am not sure if I will continue reading the series. The next book is about the second eldest, and she is already thoroughly unlikable from the first book....NOTE TO THE AUTHOR: Keep up the writing! You have really good style and your story is one of the best written - grammar, style, flow, emotional realism - I've read in a little while. Good work!
What do You think about Maelyn (2012)?
An wonderful sweet little read. I will definitely be reading the entire series.

It was a good novella. Characters you could grow to be intrigued by.
