#13 in the Chief of Police Arly Hanks comedic mystery series. Set in the small rural Arkansas town of Maggody, pop. 755 filled with low IQ barely making it financially people with many from the same extended family. Very little happens that requires police work. Arly's tranquillity is disturbed when she is pushed by the mayor's wife to help chaperon the church youth group, she must keep ten hormonally-challenged teens in line on a retreat to Camp Pearly Gates for a week. Things get quickly complicated when they encounter what appears to be a reglious cult of women and children who share the camp[ area and one of these women is murdered.Much of the dialog is peppered with sarcastic zingers from the many colorful characters in the novel all of whom seem to stumble and bumble along.
