Maids Of Misfortune (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

Mystery starring Anna, in Victorian San Francisco, who acts as a clairvoyant, but isn't really. She has a good head for investing and she is unable to get a job as a financial advisor since she is a woman, so she uses the skills in the only way a woman could at the time. One of her favorite clients is found dead, first determined a suicide, but Anna thinks he didn't have any reason to kill himself so she poses as a maid in the dead man's household to look for clues. I enjoyed it, but wish she had been a true clairvoyant, which would have made it more interesting. Other than that, I believe the time period is accurately portrayed. Man, I got so mad everytime I had to stop reading. I enjoyed this book from the very beginning to the very start. First we get to meet Annie Fuller, a strong and independet character living in the 1879, then we have the story. The book i great, the background is verywell set (and Thanks to Downton Abbey I got to have a better understanding of come of the characters and the rules of the classes :P ). The mystery in wich the book works around is good, is well defined but not over complex and hard to follow. It also has a shadow of romance for those who love to see it in books, but is the type of romance you could expect from that time.I gave it a 5 because it never got me bores, kept me interested and hooked the whole time.I'll get my hands in the sequel pronto.
