Jack said the next morning as he poured himself a cup of coffee and eyed his friend and partner over the rim. “It’s more complicated than that.” Marc flipped the pancakes while listening for Cassie to rouse herself. She had fallen into a deep, exhausted sleep last night, but he hadn’t been so lucky. The threat of this stalker had decided the issue of whether he was going to give a relationship with Cassie a chance again. Much to his surprise, he discovered his feelings still ran too deep for him to turn his back on her. “Scott called me yesterday after Cassie had shown him a note she got in the mail from a stalker. There was no way I was going to let her handle that alone.” Jack frowned at his combative tone. “You don’t have to justify your involvement to me. I of all people know how difficult it is to stay away from a woman you really want, one your body wars with your mind over. Hell, if you hadn’t nudged me in Morgan’s direction and she hadn’t pushed me from the other end, I’d probably still be just a friend.”
