Fantastic easy reader that gives a positive portrayal of kids who aren't from two parent households. Cute story about making friends with someone who doesn't seem too friendly. Short, sweet, and pitch perfect as far as I can tell. Highly recommended for beginning readers.I will be reading the rest of this series, since they seem to cover all sorts of important social issues, with Dyamonde-tude! (I'm old and get to make awful puns.) Dyamonde Daniel has personality! I love the illustrations. The illustrator also illustrated a lovely picture book, The Deaf Musicians by Pete Seeger and Paul Jacobs (shameless plug for my dear friend). But I do really love the illustrations. A nice beginning to a series about African American children starting a new life in a new neighborhood.A very easy read (maybe too easy)for the MCBA list.
This is a story of a girl who is just a nice person. It's great to read books with nice characters.

Joyful. Junie B. Jones has new, grammatically correct competition. Love the NYC setting.
