Making Gay Okay: How Rationalizing Homosexual Behavior Is Changing Everything (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
People don't listen to this book! Gay is good! This is a simple argument i use whenever i come across a homophobic; it baffles them every time:*Having same sex attraction isn't a choice, i was born that way, thus, gay sex is right.* Having animal attraction isn't a choice, i was born that way, thus, human-animal sex is right.* Having child attraction isn't a choice, i was born that way, thus, pedophilia and child molesting is right.*Having an attraction to beautiful women isn't a choice, i was born that way, thus, i can have sex and rape my neighbors wife, and it's right because I didn't have a choice(i didn't have a choice, because i was attracted to her).*Having an attraction to (past anything here) isn't a choice, --if-- I was born that way, thus, Having sex with (past anything here) is okay, and even very commendable!***That's right folks! Acting on same sex attractions makes perfect sense, and is good true and noble! This is a very important book. Reilly makes his arguments from a Roman Catholic, natural law perspective, rather than arguing from Scripture. His arguments are sound, especially as he makes connections to previous cultural changes regarding sexual morality as summed up by this quote: "once sex was separated from diapers, everything else more or less followed…" His analysis of the extent to which rationalizing homosexual behavior is affecting American culture is both profound and disturbing. However, as an evangelical Christian I think one more step in analysis must be taken. Reilly gives no hope of how the gospel can change those who struggle with same-sex attraction or even those who are currently committed to homosexual behavior. In his defense, that's not the purpose of this book. However, as a Christian and a pastor I'm convinced that step can't be forgotten in any conversation about this topic.
