Making It All Work Unabridged Cds (2003) - Plot & Excerpts

Organizational zen. Allen wrote a magnificent book "Getting Things Done" which dives into the process of tying up loose ends, and getting your life free of mental clutter. It's such a great book, even Allen alludes to it's success. It's the place to start with Allen, but "Winning at the Game of Work and Business of Life" is no minor work. What stands out is a 2x2 box showing how perception and process, looking at it as a spectrum. For some, we get very caught up in ideas of organization, and have grand plans from pleasure to the nitty gritty trenches of work. Of course, some people get caught in process, always using the tools, but never getting the mindset to move toward their goals. Allen's book itself is masterfully laid out. There is enough gold here to help anyone shape up. A lovely, quick read, and reminder that these skills can be of use to anyone. I'm really not one for American business gurus and life coaches but Allen's earlier book really did change everything for me. I have an eclectic job and had got used to a life of "slightly swamped". Following Allen's mantra of "getting clear" I now operate on a zero inbox, weekly reviews, contextual to dos, etc and it helps. A lot.In this sequel Allen reinforces much of what he has said before which I've found useful for reflecting on how it has all gone so far. He extends this to consider higher levels of consideration of your life's projects, goals, aims and values. Hence we journey to 20,000 feet perspectives, 30,000 feet and so on. This seemed a little contrived at first but has started to make a lot more sense now that I have applied it to my own circumstances. I would definitely read Getting Things done first and come back to this volume after maybe 6 months of working with Allen's methods. With that approach this makes an excellent extension and reflection piece.A great book for those who life in demanding worlds. For those who live the simple life it will probably be overkill.

What do You think about Making It All Work Unabridged Cds (2003)?

Helpful reading after "Getting Things Done", but skip ahead to page 209 or 216 and read from there.

Not as great as GTD. I read about half of it before getting bored and quitting.
