Martin Misunderstood is a novella by one of my favorite authors that was only released as an Audio CD. My husband and I listened to it this past weekend on a road trip because I wanted to introduce him to Karin Slaughter. It was less than 3 hours long, which turned out to be a good thing. As much as I love Karin's novels and adore her sense of humor, Martin Misunderstood was a little disappointing. It is a satire, rather crude, and sort of depressing. I'm glad we listened to it, so that I can now say I have read (or listened) to everything Karin has published. I would only recommend it to someone who, like us, wanted a short book to listen to on a shorter road trip. This is a short story/novella about Martin, a rather pathetic loser who lives with his mother, reads a lot of crime fiction, and works as an accountant at a toilet suppplies firm where he is bullied by everyone. He becomes the main suspect when one of his colleagues is murdered.It a was fairly bleak satire full of fairly awful characters but I thought the ending was quite clever and I liked all the references to other authors.

Good book, wish it was a bit longer and I didn't really get the ending..but was otherwise good!

Interesting story. Very funny at places. I still prefer her novels, though.
