Meet Fifty Shades Continued - Fifty Shades Of Grey (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
Ok so, I have A LOT of feelings about this book. And not a lot of them are good. Trigger warnings: Abuse, manipulation, discussion of rape, stalkingThe last 40 pages? Excellent. The rest of it was more blatant with the abuse and manipulation. I want to talk about the last 40 pages first (well 40 pages according to my .pdf reader). This is the only case in which I actually LIKE Christian Grey and Dr. Flynn.Flynn actually points out to Grey his fuck ups with Ana and starts to put him on the right track (now if only it could have happened in the original book and he stuck to it maybe I might like the subsequent two books).Christian starts looking at his behaviour and realising that hey yeah he used every tool of manipulation to get Ana to do what HE wanted her to do rather than what she wanted to do. And he starts actively questioning himself as to if that's what he wants. He still stalks her which I'm not very cool with for multiple reasons but apart from that, he starts turning into a semi decent human being. Now, for the rest of it. The scene after she "jokingly" leaves him where he breaks in and rapes her is explained that Kate answers the door heavily distracted and lets him in (which if I remember from the book so I could be remembering wrong since it's been a while since I last read it, doesn't happen that way cause Kate didn't even know he was there). Of course, like most abusers, manipulators, and rapists he justifies away everything he does to her and doesn't even call it rape because he has to show her what she's going to be missing.I will give the author credit as he does think to himself how best to use his sexual prowess to best manipulate her into signing the contract as I would be willing to bet was actually going on in the author's head when she (James) originally wrote it. Even if he doesn't admit it to himself until the last 40 pages he is actively thinking in this book how to actively manipulate her into doing what he wants.I'm giving it 2 stars rather than 1 just because of the last 40 pages. Had they not happened, I would have given it 1 star.
