I couldn’t remember what I was dreaming about, but whatever it was, it scared me. “Are you ok Lillian?” Cornelius asked startling me a little. He was sitting in a chair not far from my bed. “You scared me,” I said breathlessly. I swung my feet over the bed and looked at him. He was wearing the same clothes as he was earlier. I wondered if he had even been to bed yet. “I didn’t mean to. I was just watching over you,” he said quietly. “How long have I been asleep?” I asked looking around for a clock. There wasn’t a clock in the room. “A few hours,” he said as he continued to watch me. It was a little awkward between us. “You don’t look like you slept,” I said softly. “I wasn’t tired. Vampires don’t need much sleep,” he said curtly. I could tell by the tone of his voice that he was annoyed with me. I could see the situation being irritating. If he loved me as much as he claimed, and I didn’t return his affection, I think I would be upset too. I stood and walked over to him.
