If you've read any of my comments regarding romance novels on Goodreads then you know I am a big fan of the Long Tall Texan Series by Diana Palmer. Within the Jacobsville, Texas community are current and former Mercenaries that appear in all the books associated with the series. An off-shoot of stories feature key mercs and Eb Scott is one of those heroes. MERCENARY'S WOMAN: SOLDIERS OF FORTURNE is Eb's story. In MERCENARY'S WOMAN Sally Johnson is in trouble solely because she is the niece of former government employee Jessica Myers. Jessica provided information that put a drug kingpin in prison. However, due to a technicality, he's been released and he's looking for Jessica. Sally is an innocent in all this, she also happens to be the woman Eb Scott has loved for years. He's kept his distance because of his occupation. Now that he's no longer in the field and only the owner of the compound that trains the mercenaries he feels comfortable in approaching her, one to protect her and her nephew and two, to start a more personal relationship. The background into Eb and Sally's lives is very interesting and the romance of the secondary characters is exciting as well. In a way I'm glad I did not read these books in order. It's fun going backwards and finding out information on other characters in this series. While it is easy to follow MERCENARY'S WOMAN scenario it would pay to read it in order. Readers may stumble a bit if they don't know the background of the other characters. Next up for this reader should be Cy Parks story, THE WINTER SOLDIER since the last chapter of Mercenary's Woman mentions that things are heating up near Cy's ranch and his neighbor's husband, a undercover DEA agent has just been killed. The thing is that Eb's other friend Matt Caldwell has been mentioned as having some problems in Jacobsville. Problems that occurred before Eb's story so I have to go back and read his as well (MATT CALDWELL: TEXAS TYCOON) then on to what Cy Parks is up to.
