Miami Weiss (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

I've loved Dave Barry for a long time and read a ton of his work, including the Starcatchers/Peter Pan series. As a teenager, I went straight to his articles in the newspaper, and I received books of his work for Christmas-not many teens would do that! I snatched this up at the library and read it in a few days. I couldn't decide on a final rating bc it was funny but way out there. However, that's Barry, & I knew what to expect! It gets 4 stars simply because of the witty humor and moments of laugh out loud events (honestly, I'd rate it that just bc of the scenes with the billionaire and the brownies). It is much like a "hangover" type book. Read it for fun and your love of the author and his style; don't look for profound, life-changing stuff here. Don't mistake it for his young adult works; it's foul..and funny. An enjoyable read. I should mention that I'm a fan of Dave Barry. He's been entertaining me for years. This book is no exception. I listened to it on CD's I got from the library. He reads the book, so naturally it's read the way the author intended. It's a great story to listen to in the car, although don't bring the kids. The characters drop the F-bomb quite a bit (but not unnecessarily) and the story is really for adults.Like with most comedies, the characters make some questionable judgement calls that lead them into a tangled web of increasingly sticky situations, just prior to the main characters high class wedding. In cases, like this I sometimes roll my eyes because the characters just come across as stupid. This book skirts that level of bad decision making. I like that because it's easier to sympathize with the main character and his plight. So, it's silly without being too over the top silly. I found myself smiling all the way to work. I highly recommend it.

Exactly what you'd expect from a Dave Barry novel. Perfectly charming, but trite.
