Historical fiction vampire story. Well-developed characters; the reader has insight to motives. At the same time, the author holds back information to leave the reader wanting more and puzzling over the unknown aspects, especially of the vampire characters. The story touches on class separation or stereotypes, expectations of women in that time period, family secrets, and abusive relationships. That's a lot more than most vampire books delve into. This is a steamy read that I would not hand to my teens (just an FYI). I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (Lop or Lovers of Paranormal). This book is the first in a series of novels. I personally do not like drop endings or severe cliffhangers and was VERY happy to not be left wanting at the end of this book. It can be read as a stand alone but it will obviously continue in the next series of books. However the way it is written does not leaving you wanting for completion but instead just wanting more of this family's story. I could not put this book down until after midnight and at 5am I was up to finish it off. The flow of the book is great, plenty of drama, and sexual excitement to keep it very interesting. This book does deal with physical abuse which I believe the author deals with in an extraordinary manner. I cringed at some parts but it made me connect even more with the characters. I desperately cannot wait to read the next book, then the next and anything else Ms. Burnz writes. Vampires, Gypsy's and very sexy story equal a really good book. I recommend you give this a try.
What do You think about Midnight Conquest (2013)?
Great book. Domestic abuse I hate grrrrrrrrr. Loved Broderick but did not like Veronique.

The story started off strong but just sort of fizzled off and got kind of boring.
