Midnight Marriage: A Georgian Historical Romance (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

I almost put this book down as a "Meh. Maybe I'll go back to it someday" but something with this storyline kept calling me back until I realized I had finished the whole story. When Deborah was 12 she was given laudanum and then was married to drunk 16 year old Julian. After the ceremony Julian was banished to the European continent and Deb went back to bed, back to sleep where she believed she sad green eyed boy was just a dream. Years later Deb finds a handsome man with a sword wound in the forest and helps to save his life. Unbeknownst that they are looking at their spouse they find themselves quite smitten. Soon though the truth is revealed and Julian sets out to woo his bride without revealing the truth about himself. Julian convinces the lovely Deb to marry him (again) and they are happy in love. Until the truth about their marriage is revealed to her, his ducal parentage, and details about a lawsuit in which he is involved come to light, then things pretty much turn to mush.Their struggle towards their happily ever after is worth the turmoil. They learn that things are always as it appears on the surface. hmmmm, I'm tornIt starts well, and i can actually buy that first marriage. Nonetheless, that second one... It was when I started rolling my eyes - how can you actually believe someone, back then, and with that kind of lineage, on plus, would marry someone she didn't even know, whose family, life, the most common details you can imagine, you know nothing about? That was silly, for me.As the story unfolds, the author redeems the story, and if gets more credible again. And that's why this is a 3 stars for me.When I read the sinopse, I though this could be in the same lines as Lauren Willig's books, that I enjoy so much. Unfortunately not so, nonetheless once I got over the aforementioned bit of story, I was able to enjoy the book
