Book number Eight in the J.P. Beaumont series by J.A. Jance - 3.5 stars. Beaumont is in an alcohol treatment facility in Wickenburg, AZ attempting to stop drinking for the benefit of his liver. Around the end of the first month of treatment Beaumont's roommate is murdered. Like most of Jance's work, this story is somewhat simplistic, but that is part of the attraction - it doesn't require too much of the reader. The characters are mostly by the numbers with no surprises, and damn little back story--and I can't think of even one reason the victim's mother would end up in bed with Beaumont, especially when I fully expected her to end up as the lawyer's love interest. For anyone expecting Shakespeare, this isn't it, but it is a nice easy read to help kill a summer weekend.
