I picked this up thinking it sounds like a good psychological thriller. Well I've laughed at places where I don't think I should of done. The main character Richard Shelton who is the psychopath. His past is so excruciating that I wouldn't wanna meet him on a dark night. His parents are a weird set and I swear incest was part of the storyline (weird I know). Some of the story was like boring and I was like "Get on with it and hurry up with the story". Helena and her family and stuff is ok, just felt sorry for her, as the lead original police officer had a grudge against her as well as the main psychopath Richard Shelton. I'm not sure if I fancy reading anymore of her books, but will see what the synopsis is on the next books. I have a lot of different feelings about this book so I'll see if I can break them down for this review. It was DEFINITELY intriguing. I was always anxious to see what would happen next. At the same time, I scare easy, so I had to put it down a few times just to breathe and remember it's a book I'm reading. I liked that in the beginning we get separate stories that don't seem to have anything to do with each other and as the book progresses, we start seeing connections until it all comes together. Richard was a very, VERY sick individual. I couldn't believe some of the things he came up with. I think he was probably the most developed character. He made me sick, but in a way, I could understand where he was coming from. I don't think this would've happened if his character had been written from any other character's perspective. That guy needed some help! I almost felt sorry for him. He was a monster created by unfortunate circumstances that weren't his fault and the people around him should have been better about raising him correctly. My favorite character was Frankie. That girl is one tough cookie. I remember me at 15. In her situations, I would have jumped off a cliff. Seriously, how much can one teenage girl take? She had her moments, I mean she is a teenager after all, but she wasn't backing down from anyone without a fight. She was very strong-willed, sarcastic, but most importantly, intelligent. She knew what she was doing every step of the way. This book was pretty well written in my opinion. There were a lot of turns and surprises and it kept me on the edge of my seat. The ending, however, disappointed me a bit. It wasn't that I didn't like how it ended, it was just that it felt like someone else had written it. All of a sudden it was seemingly rushed and a bit predictable. Even the characters' dialogue seemed rushed. They started saying and doing exactly what I expected. All in all, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to fans of thrillers. It is definitely not for the faint at heart. I wouldn't even let my teenage cousins read this! For adult eyes only!
What do You think about Mommy, May I? (2013)?
Nice twist at the end - didn't see that coming!
