Murder Takes The Cake (2008) - Plot & Excerpts

This is the first book in the Daphne Martin Cake Mystery series. The main character is Daphne Martin a cake decorator who is starting a business out of her home after moving back to her hometown. Daphne delivers a cake and finds her customer dead. Naturally Daphne has questions especially after town gossips start a campaign against her. The book includes recipes and tips. It was a quick easy read. I really like the tension between love and resentment in the character's relationship with her mother. I also love the the complexity of other relationships in the book. My only caveat on about "Murder Takes the Cake" is that the geography gets a little loosey goosey (technical term)in the middle of the story. However, most of the troublesome geographical conundrums are resolved by the end of the book, or are at least forgivable when compared to the quality of character development. I will definitely pick up "Killer Sweet Tooth" as soon as I can.
