I love the motley and memorable crew of characters in this series of books. Oliver (a secondary character) is especially memorable, kind of like a terrier, small and tenactious, guarding his charges with more bark than bite. This story is about Charlotte, baseborn and crippled by her abusive father, she's grown up now as the Ward of wealthy lord and determined to help others who grew up without resources, filling her house with reformed whores, pickpockets and scoundrels. The hero, Lord Brayden, has a mystery and tragedy in his past. She's determined to help him, possibly convince him to give up his penchant for stealing jewlery from rich people. But all is not as it seems. The more memorable the story and the characters, the more stars I give a story. This one is memorable. Unique characters, plenty of story where the characters actually do something, and the blossoming romance of two people destined to be together despite the odds.
