Naamah's Blessing (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

If they allowed 6 stars, I would give it 7.All Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's and Naamah series are exiting and so wonderfully done that I started reading them again (rarely happened to me). After years of looking for something captivating I finally got it. Pardon me for this the books are written in series and I have to repeat the same opinion for every one of them. Since good to have copy-and-paste. A better finish then I was given to expect. Visiting the world of Terra Nova is interesting, mostly because it draws on a history that I have very little experience with. Again, I can help but draw parallels to what has happened before. The river journey from the trip to Saba. The sacred caste of women deciding to aid our heroine. Even drugging the priests brought me back to the temple in La Serennisima. I won't hold it against Carey. Obviously I have read the original trilogy enough times that I can quote it in my sleep. This series doesn't give me the same effect, but it has ended on a high note. Carey's Terre D'Ange and it's surrounding world is brilliant and imaginative. It takes reality and spins it just so. While I found the sex mostly unnecessary in this series, she tried something daring. I really hope there are further novels to come. Personally, I hope to read a first hand account of the tales of Elua. We've heard many anecdotes that have guided the cast of characters, and now I would like to meet the origin of it all. That would be my wish... or anything else that Carey could put forth.

What do You think about Naamah's Blessing (2011)?

Jacqueline Carey really knows how to end her trilogies with a bang. I think the last book in all of her series is always the best one and this is no exception. I loved the story and I loved the little princess. It broke my heart how much she yearned to be loved and there were times I wanted to jump in the book and throttle the characters who hurt her. Poor little thing. The journey in Terra Nova was very interesting and exciting and there were a few things I totally didn't see coming, which doesn't happen often. Raphael was horrible. I never liked him, even at the beginning. He was so goddamned manipulative in the first book, I didn't trust him for a second. He's even worse here though and I couldn't manage to make myself feel the slightest bit of pity for him. I don't care how many losses he's suffered, there's no pity in me for him.The conclusion was great. Everything came full circle, though mysteries were still there. I like how there's a possibility of the story continuing on, maybe through the eyes of her children or grandchildren. I really hope that happens. I would read those books.

Maybe 4.5*. It was reminiscent of Phédre and Joscelin's world wide escapades, but it lacked some of the romantic tension or the passion. However, for other reasons this was probably my favourite of this trilogy. Out of the three trilogies, this was my least favourite. That's not to say it wasn't good, it was. It just didn't seem right to rank it on the same level as Phédre and Joscelin's books. I'm still glad I read them. They were a great escape when I desperately needed one.

A wonderful ending though I wished the babies as fat as dumplings had made an appearance :)
