Nashville Noir (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

In this installment of the "Murder, She Wrote" mysteries, we encounter the case of the murdered publicist. The primary in this story is Cindy Blaskowitz who goes to Nashville at the wishes of the CCC in hopes of becoming Cabot Cove's first country music superstar. When a song gets taken by another artist via essentially her publicist Roderick Marker & he turns up dead she becomes the prime suspect since her bloody fingerprints were found on a CMA award. Since it would help one of Maine's own, Jessica Fletcher travels to Nashville & ends the world of country music & along the way a rather routine mystery comes about. "Nashville Noir" is the first book I've read in this series & for me it's almost as if this could in fact be an episode of this long running television series from the 1980s which is both a plus and a minus. Bain essentially keeps you guessing as to whodunit for the majority of the book & introduces the true culprit early on & then that character vanishes into the background. As a TV episode this probably would've work & as a mystery novel somewhat. It's just a simple read in a series that put Angela Landsbury back on the map & into our homes for so many Sunday nights. This book like all the others in the series was very good. An interesting and fun mystery with unique characters and an exciting plot. One aspect of this book that differs from the others was Jessica's relationship with the accused murderer. While she was friends with the accused she was not as close to her as she has been to others making the story more interesting because she did hold some doubt regarding her innocence. This change in relationship was a nice switch and added to the story. Overall, a fun read.
