I liked the subject of this book quite a lot; not overly crazy about the way it was structured but was interested enough in the story to overlook that; listed to the audio for part of it and read part of it. Takes place from 1941 to 1964 and since I was born in 1944 and my father fought in the army artillery and my mother told me stories about life as an army wife with a small child and I can remember much of the historical happenings from the mid fifties on, it was all very real to me. It was a very believable telling of American Society and women's lives. I just wish I had asked my parents more questions when they were still with us because I would really like to have more first hand information about their lives during this time period. This is the story of three women, Millie, Grace & Babe. It begins at the start of WWII and follows these women as they are thrust into the war, through their young war time marriages to life in the 50's & 60's. Each woman is affected differently by her war time choices & losses. The story show how no one was left untouched by the war & how the war affected their lives for years to come. This is not an especially deep read, but the story does touch on issues like prejudice, racism and the expectations of woman's place dueling the time period. Definitely a worth while read for insight into how WWII affected the ones left behind when the men went off to war.
I was slightly disappointed by this book overall. I just wasn't what I was expecting.
