I first read this in grade nine. Being that it was an introductory book for my time in the school book club, I was quite excited to dive right into it.The book is fairly fast paced though there are no major plot twists to speak of. Right from the beginning you realize there is something fishy about the so called strawberry smoothies. It was a fun adventure though the characters are not the most memorable and only after happening upon this book on my shelf did I remember that I had indeed read it. If you are looking for something to keep your mind wondering for days or weeks to come, I would suggest you look elsewhere. If you want a fast and enjoyable tale then Night Runner might be what you need. So... I had started reading this book a while back and I was really liking it but life got in the way and I had to put it on hold. Therefore, when I picked up the book again, I started at the beginning all over again and I'm so glad I did! This book is cute and the main character is just as adorable. 15 year-old Zach is a character that is practically allergic to his own skin and can't eat, he drinks his meals. That being said, the next interesting thing about Zach is that he lives in a psych ward and he's been there for 8yrs because of his condition. Another thing is, he sleeps all day and wakes up after the sun sets and runs until it's time for his meal (though he loves to read and hang out with his best friend Charlie when he comes visiting.)Up to this point the story is very interesting and you get to really grasp Zach's personality -he's a quirky, orphaned teenager who's been practically alone for a greater part of his life. Then, adventure comes knocking like he's always dreamed (from reading about Bilbo and his adventures in The Hobbit) and he is up for it but not at all prepared and totally nervous about it. Really, what makes this book is the comical approach Zach has about everything that happens to him and his best friend Charlie adds to the fun. So my raiting is 3.5!
What do You think about Night Runner (2009)?
