Nowhere Near Respectable (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

I think this was my favorite book out of the series so far. This book was not like most of the historical romance books I have read. It was a mystery/romance book all in one nice little package. Without ruining the book for other readers, the main characters Kiri and Mac were delightful. Kiri, or Lady Ashton, knew how to use a type of martial arts to bring down bad guys. Mac went to school with Kiri's brother and kept placing in Kiri in the off-limit category. Kiri and Mac teamed up to solve a mystery about who was trying to kidnap Princess Charlotte, who is a real historical figure. I absolutely loved the reverse cat and mouse game in this book where the female kept trying to woo the male. I think my favorite part of the entire book though would of had to have been when Kiri was using disguises to hide her true identity during her "spying" missions. It was fun to see her transform into different unrecognizable characters. Plus, she kept sneaking into "gentleman" clubs which was fun to read about. I think it would have be awesome to be a fly on the wall of some of those clubs during those times. Imagine the gossip being overhear! Anyway back to the story at hand, this was one of my favorite Putney stories. She did an amazing job weaving the storyline between the characters of past and present while at the same time including real-life historical figures. I look forward to reading the last two stories in this series to see if the writing continues to be fun and exciting.
