3.5 StarsNursing the Doctor is the first book of the Doctor series by Bobby Hutchinson. I’m not sure exactly what to say about this book, to be quite honest. I enjoyed the story and the characters overall, it just seemed rushed in some places and improbable at times. I would recommend it if you are looking for a quick read and you’re not critical of details and probability this book will suit you just fine. Lilly Sullivan is an ER nurse that is great at her job. She thrives in the emergency environment and can be counted on. This carries over into her personal life, as well. She helps to care for her niece when her brother is at work and the ex is too busy to be a mom. She shares care of her grandmother who is suffering from Alzheimer’s. Lucky for her she doesn’t have a dating life to get in the way. She was just born to take care of people. Dr. Greg Brulotte is a great ER doctor, but not such a quality person. He’s not a terrible person, he’s just very self absorbed. He has a different woman in his bed every night and doesn’t plan on changing that anytime soon. He works hard and plays harder. In a cruel twist of fate, the doctor is now the patient and not a very good one, at that. He’s grumpy and mean with the nurses, friends and family. Lo and behold the only one that can calm the doctor and cure his downward spiral into depression is Lilly Sullivan the very nurse who has turned him down every time he has asked her out. The story unfolds as the pair get to know each other better and discover a spark that can’t be denied. This really isn’t a bad story at all. It just seems unbelievable in that the playboy doctor turns into a romantic that would move heaven and earth to have a chance at forever after seemingly overnight. It would be hard for me to believe that his feelings weren’t solely based on the fact that no one else wants to be around him because of his surly temper. Lilly temporarily has the same fear, but gets over it quickly. “I was totally honest. I told them I loved making love, because I do. I said I cared for them, because I did. I said I liked them, because it was true. But I never told any of them that I loved them.”I would like to thank BookRooster through Amazon for the loan of this book in exchange for my honest review. You can find this review and others at http://riverinaromantics.blogspot.com and http://tinar1121.blogspot.com
I liked this okay. It was way less 'nursing the doctor' than I expected - not that I really knew what to expect. The doctor in question was definitely laid up in the hospital and was an uber-grouch to the entire staff (and especially to the nurses) but the nurse who was our heroine didn't actually do any nursing, which I was sort of led to believe by the blurb. She visited a couple of times and then they were dating... it was a bit sudden. They went from being co-workers who were friendly but not friends (though I guess each was attracted to the other but wouldn't pursue it for thier own reasons) to lovers very quickly. I get that his accident gave him a whole new perspective and to be honest, the change in him was done rather believably. I just wished there had been more interaction of the two falling in love than one almost hostile visit, a second compassionate visit, a third 'I have to tell you you might have Hep C' visit to a fancy dinner date in the hospital room to sex in a private room in the hospital to well, he's released and asking her to marry him.It didn't really feel rushed but after I finished, I was left with the question of when did they actually fall in love - I guess you can assume during the 6 months she worked at the hospital where she kept a cool distance to his ladies' man persona that they must have had some meaningful interactions, because otherwise, they fell in love basically in 3 hospital visits. But as I said, it didn't feel rushed or forced, I just wished for a little more of them...
What do You think about Nursing The Doctor (2012)?
I enjoyed reading this book and finished reading it in half a day. The story is very well written and the description of the workings of an ER in a hospital is very well portrayed. The various medical emergencies written in the story brought to mind the TV series ER.Enjoyed the way Dr Greg Brulotte behaved when he was in recovery. Believe I will behave similarly if I were in pain. They say doctors made the worst patients, and he truly live up to it. Lily Sullivan is a strong lady and a good match for Dr Brulotte. Really love the Krupps twins. They are most entertaining.Would recommend this book to all who love a good romance.*Received this book free for a honest review.*

St Joe's Hospital ER doctor, Greg Brulotte is hard on the nursing staff and that along with his personal reputation as a womanizer, allows Nurse Lily Sullivan to keep him at arm's length, both professionally and personally. She is one of a few people on staff who has ever stood up to him, earning his respect towards her in addition to being attracted to her.One night during a lull in the action of the busy Emergency Room, Greg invites Lily to share his pizza with him in the breakroom. Knowing he expected her to deny his invitation, she surprised him by accepting, and surprises herself when she discovers after only a few bites of pizza that perhaps she's not immune to his charm after all.Greg is badly hurt in a skiing accident and finds himself as a patient at St. Joe's hospital. Doctors often make the worst patients and Greg is no exception to this rule as he's angry about his injuries and also scared about his prognosis and takes his feelings out on the staff. Lily finds herself visiting him as he recovers, as she has some news to share with him about an encounter with a patient in the ER that happened a few weeks prior. It's Greg's turn to surprise Lily as he takes the news very well and helps alleviate her fears. During his hospitalization and his visits with Lily, his attitude softens and they discover they have more in common than just their workplace.I enjoyed this book very much! It was a quick read, only taking me a few hours, but for those few hours, I was hoping that Lily and Greg would be able to tear down each other's walls and be able to find happiness with each other and I couldn't wait to get to the end to see how the story played out.disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review of it.
