I loved this book! Maybe I'm biased, but I felt a real personal connection to the main character, whatever her foibles. Everyone in this story felt like a real person - Janey, Daniel, Ethan, Katie, Jason and Lucas... I enjoyed their observations on family and literature and history and education and life, just as much as their drunken shenanigans and ridiculous escapades. Really just struck a chord, you know? I would have loved to be friends with all of them in real life. That said, Jill did not feel quite like a real person to me, and the ending of the book soured it a little bit for me. BUT! STILL GOOD! Very much enjoyed :) This book reminded me of a time when I was still young enough to believe that literature was the most important thing in the world. Like the three girls, I was an English major and VERY proud of that! Nearly forty years later, I found myself annoyed by Janey, the self-described "unreliable narrator" until I realized that the author is deliberately writing from the viewpoint of a smart but clueless young academic. Real life catches up with her in ways that I recall it catching up with me. Another story I couldn't put down!
