O Livro De Victor Frankenstein (2008) - Plot & Excerpts
I give this book one star for catching my interest. Although at first the "philosophical" writing style is rough reading, the story does catch it's reader during the ascending action. From there it carries a determined reader quickly through to the end and leaves you with an ache after the last page. I give this book a second star for avoiding the cheap thrills of lurid or shocking descriptions and acts. I would call this a safe read interesting to some one with a philosophical bent, an interest in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, or Lord Byron. I really like this author, I have read his biographies of William Blake and London-- and I typically also like historical fiction of this sort, but for some reason all the pieces didn't fall into place for me in this particular re-imagining of Mary Shelley's monster story. The story dragged for me, and I found its overwhelming gloomy tone kind of a downer, frankly, although I did persevere through til the end, the payoff was not that great.
