Oath Of Office (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

At first it is not apparent how the medical aspect ties in with the political. Both make for great reading as individual stories and would hold up well on their own.Dr. Welcome's theory of the odd behavior displayed by some of the town's people was accepted way too easily by Sheriff Stone. I would expect an intelligent man such as the sheriff seemed to be, to discredit such a bizarre hypothesis. While this starts off rather interesting and with a good plot line, it disintegrates into something over-the-top. The activities of the First Lady give me a bit of an eye roll and Dr. Lou Welcome takes on some pretty powerful people. Keeping in mind however the conspiratorial plot line, one has to consider that similar actions could and perhaps do take place. Title: Oath of OfficeAuthor: Michael PalmerSeries: Dr. Lou Welcome #1Synopsis (from bn.com):When Dr. John Meacham goes on a shooting spree the office, his business partner, staff, and two patients are killed in the bloodbath. Then Meacham turns the gun on himself. The blame falls on Dr. Lou Welcome. Welcome worked with Meacham years before as a counselor after John’s medical license had been revoked for drug addiction. Lou knew that John was an excellent doctor and deserved to be practicing medicine and fought hard for his license to be restored. After hearing the news of the violent outburst, Lou is in shock like everyone else, but mostly he’s incredulous. And when he begins to look into it further, the terrifying evidence he finds takes him down a path to an unspeakable conspiracy that seems to lead directly to the White House and those in the highest positions of power. My thoughts: If I thought his latest book, Resistant, was good . . . this one was even better! Wow! What a ride!I truly enjoyed this book. There were points where I couldn’t put it down, you know readers those, “oh I know I have to go to bed, but I can’t put it down, just one more chapter . . . I have to see what happens, ok one more chapter” type of books. I literally wanted to find ways to read this one while stopped at stop lights . . . ok, ok I didn’t.Another great book by Michael Palmer, the first in his Dr. Lou Welcome series. A brilliant mix of medical drama, political cover-up, intrigue, fast-paced drama, conspiracy, scientific intrigue . . . what is not to love!I will have to say that Michael Palmer is the king of what I have coined the “visceral reaction” in his books. Both in this book and in Resistant that I literally felt myself getting a bit nauseous and light-headed by his vivid description of the event. Don’t let this at all discourage you from reading his great novels, it certainly wasn’t always gruesome, blood and guts type of descriptions, he just does a wonderful job of offering a description that makes you feel like you are there. Phew! Deep breaths were necessary as I was reading and my eyes kept getting bigger and bigger while thinking to myself, “She’s doing what . . . WHAT!!!!!”A great, fast-paced read! Pick it up and see if you can put it down . . . I dare you

Starts out as a good read and then takes off like gangbusters. Super unreal exciting ride.

Good read…a bit unrealistic, per Michael Palmer's usual, but a good read nonetheless.
