Normally I don't like books where the heroine is written by a man. And that's not racist or anything like that, it just is what it is. The writing style really is, genuinely, different. I feel like there's less "emotions" tied to a character. Which was the case in this book. However... That doesn't mean I didn't like it.To be honest, I liked my heroine to feel some crippling emotions, but not act on them for once. There's a lot less stupidity to bug me actually. Usually heroines feel a bunch of things, act on them, things go awry and in the end they should've consulted with someone and everything would have been fine. But that didn't really happen here. And lord, Miranda sure didn't have it easy. Yet somehow she's capable of putting the emotional shit somewhere else and focus on the task at hand. And that sure is refreshing :-)I would definitely recommend this book, if only because the plot is pretty complicated - and I think it will become even more difficult to grasp in the following installments - and so it's really a story to put your teeth into. There's a bit of romance, but nothing too dramatic or cliche to have it stand in the way of the plot. I'm looking forward to book 2 :-) 2.5 stars. I like the idea of this book. The synopsis captured my attention. The beginning part of the book was very intriguing. But the overall story fell flat for me. The dialogue was stiff, the information was lacking, and there are too many characters who are the same that it was really hard to keep track of them. I'm going to try the second one and see if it will get better now that Miranda has her current memories back. Hopefully the writing will flow better as well. I dunno, this was a different book but I felt like a lot was missing from it.
