Of Sweaters And Heartache (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
Flashbacks. Used with dramatic power. This is the ONLY story I can think of in recent years that has used flashbacks extensively and brilliantly. Usually, I see a flashback or even a hint of an upcoming flashback and I am recoiling, sputtering, flinging myself backwards while throwing the book with two fingers like it's anthrax. But, this one, this one. It needs to be in how-to books as an example of how to use flashbacks for emotional effect. A great story. I especially liked the snark, which I found witty and funny. It had me laughing aloud on the train :-)Personally, stories of love lost is extremely hard to read, even if the lovers find their way back to each other. Yet, the way in which this is written made this plot point palatable, which is commendable. The flashbacks are well done and serve the narrative well and the dialogue is strong. Plus, I like a little bit of harmless stalking and determination. A good, short read.I like this author's voice! And English isn't even her first language: double the kudos.
