Wow, probably my favorite historical fiction. The author weaves a beautiful story of two lives in different countries and how they are brought together through love and war. Danny is a young boy who receives an assignment from his teacher to choose a pen pal from a different country. Through letters Danny comes to know a boy named Hans and his sister Anya. The war with Germany and Hitler rocks the lives of these two characters. I don't want to give too much away. Read this book! It it so beautifully written and one I will most definitely remember! I really enjoyed this book and the characters in it. The main character Danny starts off as a High School boy pre- WWII and he has a pen pal in Holland. The book follows Danny and the pen pal's family in Holland as the war begins and as trouble escalates over in Europe. I liked the attention to detail that was given in writing this story about WWII and what people faced. I don't want to give away too much, but I am a sucker for a happy ending and this book did not disappoint.
This will be one of my all time favorite books. Loved, loved, LOVED this story!

it was a pretty good tale but a little bit too much religion for my tastes.
