Normally metal bands would go out for eight weeks and then were done, but I said, “No, this band has got to work every day of the week for at least a year because that’s how you break a band.” You’ve got to play small places first and work your way up, not because you’re small, but because you want the fans to have that intimate connection—the kind that lasts a lifetime. So we’d tried to open for a bigger act but then we’d always go back and headline a smaller place and we rotated that; and we certainly weren’t going to pull the plug after eight weeks. Instead they played two hundred and sixty-four dates touring Cowboys from Hell in the U.S. alone… We rode in something that could only be described as a fucking bucket of bolts.
