A. This is a book about a mama squirrel that scares of predators from her baby squirrels. Many animals and humans come near the tree but mama squirrel scares them off. With the help of the other squirrels she even scared off a grizzly, for which she received a plaque.B. The themes in this book are family and asking for help.C. I would use this book to teach students about the importance of asking for help. Ol' Mama Squirrel is very serious when it comes to protecting her babies. She'll scold anybody and anything. When a bear comes sniffing around and lets her know that he's not afraid of her one bit, Ol' Mama Squirrel takes off to find reinforcements. She returns with 120 other Mama Squirrels who let that bear know that he is not welcome. The townspeople are so thankful to Mama Squirrel for getting rid of that bear that they erect a plaque in her honor. Readers are encouraged to take a look at the plaque if they have the chance. If Ol' Mama Squirrel will let you anywhere near it, that is.
