Olivia Va A Venecia = Olivia Goes To Venice (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
Olivia and her family venture to Venice where Olivia eats an obscene amount of gelato! I thought this story was a good representation of a family vacation. This would be a great story to incorporate into a Social Studies lesson. You could perhaps have the students pick their favorite tourist spot in the book and research it further. I like that the picture were not only illustrated by there as also some 'photograph' like pages. The ending is very funny and I think that children would really enjoy Olivia's adventure! PICTURE STORY BOOKI loved this book! I haven't read any of the Olivia books before, and this one definitely made me want to read all of them! The illustrations are done very well, and they do a great job of conveying Olivia's enthusiasm and liveliness. The story itself is very witty, and the humor appeals to adults as well as children. In the story, there is a running joke about gelato; every time Olivia runs into a problem she resorts to eating more gelato. Because they are in Italy, this would be a good book to read with students when discussing European countries or cultures. The book mentions some historical Italian sites and tells a little bit about the culture. This is certainly more of a fun read aloud book than an educational book, but it's still fun nonetheless!
