This is a Sherwood Smith book that really works for me, despite the suggestive book cover, which in no way reflects the tone or message of the book, except for the silly "Got Books?" t-shirt, which does (ignoring again the tight fit in the picture). The tone of this book is playful and even silly, and yes, there is predictability, but it is a fun ride and cute romance too. "Swashbuckling in a magic world—L.A. style!" Yep, that nails it. I quite enjoyed it, but have book 2 handy so you don't have to mind the cliffhanger. It is really hard to come across a book where both mom and daughter are the heroines. I like that because moms will do anything for their children. This book has so much action and adventure. Who can resist a book with a hot pirate in it as well? In the story, mom and daughter were forced to leave their home and go to earth where Sun is originally from. In the other world having an Earth girl be ruler while the King has gone missing was frowned upon and a usurper, Merindar, came along and took over the kingdom. After Sasha was kidnapped, Sun comes looking for her and falls into the path of Merindar. She tries hard to make him like her so she can weasel her way out and find her daughter and husband. Sasha meanwhile ends up with some pirates and is somewhat of an ally but yet a prisoner. At the end of the book, it seems to just cut off when it feels like more should be written to give it a little closing and introduce the next book. However, it is a book in a series and Im looking forward to reading book two.
What do You think about Once A Princess (2008)?
Not an easy read, and the ending wasn't really an ending.
