One Good Dog (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

from James--One Good Dog isn't great literature or even especially well-written (how many times can you use the word fuggy!?), but I still enjoyed it. It's not overly sentimental and I really got attached to Chance, the rescued pitbull who ultimately ends up rescuing the protagonist, Adam. The chapters in Chance's voice were my favorite; it's always fun to imagine what a dog is thinking. Along those lines, if you haven't you read The Art of Racing in the Rain or the Spencer Quinn "Chet and Bernie" mysteries, you should. One Good Dog is a little predictable, although I was surprised at the end by one plot reveal. It kept me turning pages and left me feeling better by the end; there are worse ways to spend a couple of evenings. If you're a dog person, this is your book. Great book. Stated out slow, but as you continue reading it, the reader finds out more background information about the main character of the story, Adam March, who loses everything in his life from his job, to his family, and identity, only to be saved by a four-legged creature. There is ironic humor, love, companionship, and lessons to be learned in this book. I recommend it to any dog or animal lover.
