One More Summer (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

This book catches you by surprise, the blurb is rather inviting and you imagine what the book is about and you would be terribly wrong if you wrote it off as a bit of fluff. The book was powerful, I had a terrible feeling about what would be uncovered in the backstory and I was not wrong....however the angst, the dram, the sadness and even horror of a few scenes broke my heart. I was crying.... it deals with SPOILERScancer, abuse, rape, and so much more than those words project. This author had me by the throat and the heart up until the very last page. I must say, I really liked this story. I've been on a good book roll lately. I find it difficult to say a book is amazing so I rarely give a book 5 stars, but less than 5 is not a bad thing. I liked the story. Sometimes these people were so selfless (Grace and Promise) that they didn't seem very real. Nobody is this perfectly perfect. Victims that get over their supressed, life-long hurts after a couple of moving conversations, and suddenly they're all better like the past never happened. I guess that's why I like this kind of fiction, though. It feels good to know that all can be right in the small town of Peacock, Tennessee.
