One Night With The Prince (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
This was just so terribly written. Perhaps it's because I've recently been reading books with much more depth and a lot of work, intelligence and effort poured into the words and story, but this was honestly one of the worst books I've ever read. I wish I could give it a lower star rating. There are far too many enthusiastic exclamation points, Anna acts and talks and thinks like an 11 year old girl, I honestly was initially confused, when they would talk about college or travelling the world, because she was mentally pre-teen. Some examples:'My room was awesome! So completely me! It had blue green walls and cream-coloured carpet...I had a queensized bed that had a white background while there were palm trees everywhere on it. I loved tropical places!''I saw my stuffed simba looking envious of Louis. “Missy can you cuddle Simba? He's lonely'It's beyond juvenile, over the top puppy excitement, childish pranks, just all round annoying shallow character. There was a clear lack of thought process in her creation, and her friends. I'm annoyed I started this book because I then had to finish it, and it's a good 2 hours I'll never get back. I wish we could sue for time instead of money.I'm curious to know whether Anna had some kind of mental handicap? This entire book was written like it was a child's cartoon. I want to profusely apologise if this was written by a child, as I hate the idea of stifling a young person's creativity. However if it's an adult..then good grief..have mercy on the world of literature. It isn't a bad story and the characters are easy to like. That is the only reason I read it to the end. However it wasn't that great of a book. The plot just wasn't polished enough. I feel like this should have been a rough draft. That might sound bad but it how I feel. This story has a lot of potential (which is more than I can say for some). But it just fell short of being a complete story. Most of the time it felt like a teenage daydream. How an adolescent would picture their first love to turn out. I was that girl that daydream about this too. That might be the reason that I saw this book to the end. Because I could relate to the storyline and the main character. That doesn't always make for the best story though. One other problem I had with this book is the point of view. I have read a lot of book that switch point of view from the girl and guy. It works some of the time. However, most of the time it doesn't. I think if the book would have just stayed in Anna's point of view the whole time it would have been better. I do get why it had to be in the Prince's view a few times. Yet I think that it wasn't critical to the story. And then more than half way though the book it was side character's point of view. I almost threw my e reader across the room when I got to that. It did nothing for the plot. Everything we found of in that chapter could have been told (and pretty was) from someone else. I just can't wrap my head around that still.I did enough it, but there are too many things that stuck out too me. I do however love Anna. It was worth reading so see how everything ended for her.
