Jed returned from war in pieces. He barely survived the last mission which decimated his team and now he's struggling with his broken body and guilt eating at him day and night.Coming back to his hometown may not have been his best idea, thought he might be wrong on that. Even if his relationship with younger brother is far from perfect, there is one person who may be worth all the drama. And he's also plagued by illness which makes his life difficult at times.I really, really liked the story. It was sad, it was sweet and I loved Jed and Max. Flo was a sweetheart and Glenn, when he appeared, was even more so. I love reading Garrett Leigh’s stories. This has a similar emotional punch to Slide and yet it’s completely different. Macho, ex military leader Jed and Max, the caring, epileptic vegan are brought together when Jed returns home with a troublesome health issue and finds he can’t handle living at his homophobic brother’s house. I love stories where the relationship is allowed to build and grow organically and where the secondary characters are realistic characters and not just there as props for the MCs. These aren’t easy stories to read but the emotional journey is cathartic and provide the “escape” I am looking for from books.
