Only Us (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Very good novella, gets to the point better than some 300-page novels. However, since it was very good - I wanted more. Since this is a spinoff from the Fools Gold series, which I have not yet read, hopefully, there is a continuation of these characters in the series somewhere. I loved how believable these characters are. A vet and a dog groomer - the vet is blind to Rina's love until she confronts him and then he pushes her away. I liked how much she cared for his daughter. I won't spoil it for you all on how it ends. :) It's Christmastime in Fool's Gold in this enchanting short novella. Carina 'Rina' Fiore runs a pet-grooming service inside veterinarian, Cameron McKenzie's, clinic. He has a precious 8 year old daughter, Kaitlyn, who adores Rina, and Rina also takes Kaitlyn to and from school, and cooks meals for them in the evenings. Cameron's wife left two weeks after giving birth to Kaitlyn, and he swore he'd never trust another woman's love in his life. Unfortunately, he can't see what's unfolded right in front of him--Rina loves him and Kaitlyn, and their Sheltie, Noah. Kaitlyn loves Rina, and wants her as a mommy and for her daddy to love Rina, too.Favorite last paragraph in book: "Kaitlyn looked up at them and smiled. "See, I told you. We had to give Rina something so she knows we love her. And we gave her us."Lots of sweetness and humor in this Christmas novella. Loved it!!

What do You think about Only Us (2011)?

2014 is the year of catching up in the Fool's Gold series (an FYI for people who thought it odd I've been reading so many Susan Mallery books, LOL).This is short - and I might have skipped it if not for the 2014 Finish the Series Reading Challenge. It takes place around Christmas so it's rather light. Mallery manages to insert drama and a love story in this novella and I ended up happy to have read it. It's a perfect read for a busy time and will leave you with a smile as you turn the final page.
