Operation Napoleon (1999) - Plot & Excerpts

If this were the first book I'd read by this author, I wouldn't have bothered reading any more by him. Fortunately I had read and enjoyed a couple of others, which apparently were written after this earlier attempt. This wasn't really poorly written in the sense of the writing style itself, but that's about all the good I can say about it.Also, anyone translating into English should know not to have American characters saying "whilst" instead of "while". That's pretty much Translation 101. Okay, 102. But still. Also, the guy who read the audio version I listened to makes almost-annoying sounds any time a word starts with a K sound. This is the third or so audiobook narrated by him that I've checked out from the library, and while it's not a dealbreaker, it's a little distracting. I've enjoyed Indridason's mysteries (particularly "Jar City"), so when we spotted this thriller, we thought we'd give it a try. I don't read many thrillers, so I can't put it in context. However, I enjoyed it. "Operation Napoleon" moves quickly, has some interesting characters at its heart, and covers a lot of Icelandic real estate with which I was familiar. And the central mystery--what is really on that plane--kept me interested through to the end.

Very enjoyable, shouldn't have waited so long to read one of his books

Mäßiger Krimi mit unbefriedigendem Ende. Aber ganz gut geschrieben.
