2,5 starsI really don't know what to make of this book yet. I've finished it, but I still can't decide whether I like it or not. Right now, it's more of a "meh". It wasn't bad, but it didn't knock me flat on my butt either. Granted, I've already read a trilogy that circled around a Cambion. And I love those 3 books to teeny tiny little pieces. So maybe 'The Cambion Chronicles' is at an unfair disadvantage due to me comparing it to that trilogy. Overall, I liked the idea of the book, I liked where it was going. Towards the end, something very unexpected happened (which was when the story actually started getting my full attention). I guess my main problem was the way it was written. More often than not it felt forced. Like the author tried way too hard at sounding like the words just flowed out of her hands and onto paper. A lot of descriptions were unnecessarily drawn out, sometimes I even wondered what the hell she was trying to say with those labyrinth-like sentences.The ending definitely has me interested in the other 2 books though. So maybe I will like those better. I read a lot of reviews about how Sam was strong & feisty and unlike your average YA heroine in she didn't fall all over the guy without good reason and that this story had a relationship that wasn't insta-love but developed through mutual interests and time spend together so my expectations were pretty high. Unfortunately, while the story was enjoyable enough it didn't live up to my expectations. Sure Sam has a smart mouth and said all the sensible things about not being sucked in by Caleb who is dangerous - BUT then she was! Some examples:He asks her out , she says no, he kisses her and gives her a time - so she goes.She tells everyone she doesn't like him, is only going out to get info and arranges her friend to be around as back up (sensible) but then exhibits typical crush behaviour unable to pick an outfit etcFinds out Caleb feeds on life force, sensibly freaks as decides to stay away, then starts spending time with him.I found Caleb's love to be (understandably) less about Sam and more about the fact he found someone who wasn't effected by his demon.I also found the whole sucking the life out of people kind of icky and very much a romance killer. But that is just me - everyone else seems to love it so if this is your kind of thing give it a try.

I enjoyed this read. It wasnt at all how I expected it to be and that was refreashing.
