Don Winslow is back! I know I am in the minority when I say I thought Savages was pure crap, but since I liked all of the other books I have read from this Author, I decided to read his latest, and I was greatly rewarded. If you liked Dawn Patrol, or the Winter Of Frankie Machine, you will like this. It is an easy and very enjoyable read, with Characters you can like and bad guys you can't wait to see fall. I loved the book! READ DAWN PATROL FIRST!!Dawn Patrol introduces many of the characters and provides a great deal more backstory also it is a better book. Wish I could give this 3.5 stars. It was really good (I thought I was going to give it 4 stars) but the ending felt very rushed. Winslow appears to take his time developing the characters/plot. Winslow takes what could have been a run of the mill mystery populated by stock/1 dimensional characters, but is able to create interesting, real characters--you can picture them and hear their voices saying the dialogue. With such a slow build, I was very surprised that Winslow crams in multiple plot twists in the last few pages. It also does not help that the first half of the novel Boone is investigating one case but the second half goes off in another direction--it almost felt like the author had two shorter novels and decided to sitch them together. Overall a good read.
What do You think about Pacific Paradise (2010)?
Solid sequel to The Dawn Patrol, with a very enjoyable group of characters.

Pretty fun. Reminiscent of Robert Crais's early Elvis Cole novels.
